3 hurt in crash on I-295 and Old St. Augustine Road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A driver is fighting for his life after a crash Friday that tied up traffic for hours on Interstate 295.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, The accident happened at I-295 and Interstate 95 about 3:44 p.m.

A 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Matthew Thompson, 41, of Daytona Beach, rear-ended a Ford F-1-50 driven by Jason Brannen, 36, of Jacksonville. The van then went into the northbound lanes, struck the guardrail in the median and stopped.

Thompson was taken to UF Health in critical condition.

Brannen and Triston Brannen, 9, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

remarkable how many troopers are on scene after the fact,, they should have been out there at that junction, visible to all drivers, who then wouldn't be jerking around trying to prove they can handle desperate last minute lane changes,, which they are woefully incapable of... guess this fool learned the hard way.. if he survives, hopefully he will drive mre cautiously in the future??? sorry to all who re put out by one fools actions....
