BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- DeMarquise Elkins was sentenced Thursday to life without parole less than two weeks after he was found guilty for killing a toddler in Brunswick last March.Elkins shot and killed 13-month-old Antonio Santiago between the eyes at nearly point blank range. Elkins was trying to rob his mother Sherry West and threatened the violence if she did not give him her purse.
Despite two weeks of testimony, it took a Cobb County jury just two hours to return a guilty verdict. The trial was moved out of Brunswick because of the attention on the high-profile case.
