MIAMI (AP) - The defense team for George Zimmerman, the man charged in the killing of Trayvon Martin, says he is in police custody in Florida.

Zimmerman's legal team said in a tweet Sunday that he was in police custody, two days after a judge ordered him back to jail. Zimmerman's bail was revoked because the judge said he and his wife lied to the court about their finances so he could obtain a lower bond.

On Sunday afternoon, about 40 minutes before the 2:30 p.m. deadline to surrender, Zimmerman was listed as an inmate on the jail website. He was listed as being held without bail and having $500 in his jail account.

Prosecutors had said Zimmerman and his wife told the judge at a bond hearing in April that they had limited money, even though he had raised about $135,000 through a website.

The question in my mind is the flip side of the argument. The judge says he did not know that Zimmerman lied about his income so he could make bail. This implies that if they had known about the 135k that was as I understand it given for this purpose they would raised bail to 1 million or higher. Now days bail is for the rich and powerful not the average citizen to make. IT should also be discussed if you cant post the bond due to finincal reason that bail bondsmen charge a huge rate for you to go free. Something on the order of 10 percent of the bail is the fee for going free till trial. Think about that. You could be innocent and poor but you will not go free while waiting trial for a felony. Meanwhile a rich person can post the bond and get it back while poor familes have to make payments for the rest of their lives just to get their loved one out for a few days before trial. The whole concept of bail is corrupt and money making idea now days for the courts.
