JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A former Jacksonville police officer is going to prison for sexually abusing two young girls.

Richard Cannon, 25 year JSO veteran, was arrested last year on sexual battery charges. He sexually abused two young girls for years. Cannon pleaded guilty to the charges.

Before his sentence was read, the court heard from psychiatrists who say Cannon has accepted responsibility and is remorseful. Prosecutors also read letters from the victims who say their lives have been changed forever.

Cannon was given the maximum sentence, 30 years in prison followed by 15 years probation. He's 50 years old, so this easily could be a life sentence.

We'll continue to follow this case, and have more for you tonight at 5.
