JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Troopers have identified the man who died in a crash on Interstate 295 northbound at JTB Monday.
Troopers say 26-year-old Emmanuel Reyes-Connor, of Jacksonville, died in his vehicle after his vehicle went off the road Monday morning about 6:15.
”A Lincoln Mercury was traveling northbound on Interstate 295, lost control and went across the lanes and collided with the pole," said Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Tina Hall. "It split in half, and part of the vehicle remained on the scene. The other half went into the water."
The wreckage was so devastating, troopers called in a dive team to make sure there were no more victims in the pond.
“Due to not knowing who was in the vehicle, we contacted the sheriff’s department dive team. They arrived, searched the pond, and were not able to locate anyone else.
Connor was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hall said they found clothing and two business shirts.
According to FHP, alcohol was not a factor in this crash. Troopers said Connor did not wear his seatbelt.
