JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Jonathan Cyprien with their second round pick on Friday night.
Cyprien is a safety out of Florida International University. He will compete for a starting job right away.
The four-year player is a 6-foot-tall, 217 pound physical and fast-back end guy.
The Jaguars entertained a few trade offers for their 33rd overall selection, but nothing was enticing enough to move general manager Dave Caldwell out of the spot.
Cyprien comes with a ton of experience after playing in 50 games, and starting in 45.
"I was excited and happy, it's something I've been waiting for my whole life," said Cyprien. "I hope I feel this good when I get married someday."
The Jaguars had hoped Cyprien would fall out of the first round and knew they would take the safety last night
Cyprien's stock really skyrocketed after his performance in the Senior Bowl in January.
The Jaguars will pick again in the third round later tonight. First-round pick offensive tackle Luke Joeckel
was introduced in Jacksonville Friday afternoon.
