JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jaguars have fired Mike Mularkey as head coach. In a meeting this morning, Jacksonville Jaguars General Manager David Caldwell dismissed Mike Mularkey as head coach of the Jaguars.

Mularkey joined the franchise a year ago. “I informed Mike today that he will not return as head coach of the Jaguars,” Caldwell said. “I know Mike well and do not want anyone to misinterpret the rationale behind my decision. Mike is an excellent coach and I am sure he will succeed in his next stop in the NFL. However, I must do what I believe is best for the Jacksonville Jaguars and immediately explore every avenue possible to turn our football team around. For that to happen as seamlessly as we want, and as quickly as our fans deserve, I feel it is in everyone’s best interests for an immediate and clean restart.”

“Mike Mularkey is leaving our organization with my utmost respect,” said Shad Khan, owner of the Jaguars. “Mike gave the Jaguars everything he had on and off the field, and his efforts as our head coach will always be appreciated. Mike will land on his feet soon. Until then, I wish nothing but the best for Mike and his family.”

Shad Khan, David Caldwell and Jaguars President Mark Lamping will be available at a news conference at 4 p.m. today in the lower west Touchdown Club at EverBank Field.

It's a shame that they fired Mike Mularkley after only his first year and to say "I can't imagine a scenario where he would be a Jacksonville Jaguar" "Even if he is released" (TIM Tebow), shows what an Idiot he is. I told a friend last night that since he worked for the Jets that he was one of the ones that doesn't like Tebow and probably would be against him coming here. It's time for David Caldwell to go!

Are you kidding me? This team lost more than one game this year because they were simply outcoached. Bad play calling, poor judgement, and just plain not being prepaired are all coaching faults and this team had plenty of all of that. As far as they players are concerned who do you thing brought them all to play for the Jaguars? The GM thats who. firing the GM and coaching staff may not be the answer to all of our problems, but it sure is a good start.

Probably a good move in a complete makeover for the Jags. Next to go should be MJD with a thanks for his contribution to our great season! Am sure he kept himself healthy to aid in his trade negotiations. Did not renew this year for the first time in years, but will probably be back in a seat next year. GO JAGS

This is so ridiculous to fire the gm and head coach....I thought this new owner was a business man...doesn't sound like it by how his thinking is goin.......those individuals don't "play" the game, they aren't the ones that are "losing" game after game, not just this year, but previous years as well....they need to get rid of half of the players and put in ones that want to play the game, not just be there for the money which is how most of these players are. Take away all those millions of dollars and start payin them for their performance and I'll bet they start doin their jobs! They've had good coachin, but you can't win with players that don't care about the game, just their pocketbooks!
