JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police say a man shot and killed his estranged wife inside an Applebee's restaurant.
Sheridan Veney, 44, is being charged with murder.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Monday that Veney was meeting his 18-year-old daughter at the Applebee's on Lane Avenue. His wife Lisa was also there. The couple was separated.
Police said there was an altercation shortly before 8 p.m., and as she was leaving to the door, Veney shot her five times. Investigators say he waited at the restaurant and admitted to killing his wife.
The 18-year-old daughter was in town visiting family members. She lives in North Carolina and serves in the military.
She came home days before Christmas as a surprise to her mother. The video of the happy reunion is on Facebook
The shooting took place in front of a large number of patrons and employees. Homicide investigators spent much of Sunday night interviewing those witnesses.
Charlie Westmoreland said his friend's daughter and her friend were dining inside the restaurant when the shots rang out."They said there was a shooting. They heard three or four shots maybe more, they dove under the table and they crawled out the back door," said Westmoreland.
The JSO is still investigating a possible motive.
Court records show the Veneys married in 1993 in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
