Man wanted in attempted abduction of young girl

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- An active search is underway in NW Jacksonville for a man in connection with a report of an attempted abduction of a four-year-old girl.

Police are looking for Richard Lee Johnson.  He's considered armed and dangerous.

A daycare worker dropped the girl off at a home near Payne Avenue and West 6th Street when someone behind the door forcefully pulled the child inside.

The daycare worker became concerned and called police.

Police say Johnson ran from the home.  Investigators say he had a previous relationship with the girl's mother.

Investigators are searching for him in the area of Cleveland Street and Grothe Street.

Johnson is facing charges of armed burglary and false imprisonment.

Johnson has a long list of arrests. Those include driving with a suspended license in 2009 and burglary in 2008.  He was also a wanted in Georgia in 2010.  He faced battery charges in 2011. Those charges were ultimately dropped.  He was also arrested for aggravated battery in 2004. Those charges were also dropped.

The mother and child are OK.
