NRA unveils plan to get armed officers inside schools

WASHINGTON (AP) - The nation's largest gun-rights lobby is calling for armed police officers to be posted in every American school to stop the next killer "waiting in the wings." The NRA also unveiled a school security action plan to be led by former Arkansas congressman, Asa Hutchinson.

Government statistics put this country's murder rate as decreasing since 2003 which is after the time of the "assault weapons ban" repeal. The 2011 TOTAL was 14,612 out 0f 318,000,000 people! http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm There are some basic societal issues that are the root cause of these horrendous acts (some of the "latest" on Newtown have the "withdrawn" shooter becoming very interested & good in the violent video games at his school). The future freedom of 318,000,000 people should NOT be decided by any deranged INDIVIDUAL armed with anything!!!!

the faggot with the pink sign is indicative of what is wrong with some people,, no respect for the other guy !!! to interrupt the announcement with his rhetoric,, which is 100% wrong,, lunatics not the n.r.a. is what is killing folks... people like him espouse their 1st ammendment right to free speech,, whenever,, where ever however wrong,, yet would attempt to deny us our 2nd ammendment rights to possess firearms of our choosing !!! they can't have it both ways !!! this whole issue only detracts from our true financial issues which need to be solved... it is almost made to order ??? let's piss away valuable time on nonsense rather than meet our responsibility to solve our financial mess !!! typical liberaal thinking.. oh,, and i'm gonna keep on smoking & blowing the 2nd hand smoke in their faces too !!! askho;es

I was just informed that a HUGE percentage of these NUTS killing innocent people are on or have been prescribed pshycotic anti-deppressants of one form or another. SO Congress is going to blame the average taxpaying citizen who should have the right to defend ourselves from these 'crazy lunatics?

Cigarette smoking kills on average 443,000 people yearly, auto accidents are the number one case of death for our teenagers, yet no one is calling for a ban or new laws for either of those two killers. It’s only when some nut case uses a firearm to kill someone that all the bleeding heart liberals crawl out of the woodwork, calling for bans on certain firearms, their magazines and/or ammo. Fact is people, if our government bans assault weapons of any type only the criminals will be armed and well so if Eric Holder and the folks at the ATF have their way. Look at this way, how many years has this country been fighting the “war on drugs” and today there is more cocaine and heroin on our streets than ever before, most of it stronger and at lower prices than when I was in high school, which has been many, many years ago, this alone should serve as proof that bans don’t work. Simple truth of the matter is so long as there is a demand for something, there will be those willing to supply it and if a ban on firearms goes into effect we’ll just create another fine product for the Mexican cartels and those like them to import and sell on our streets. What we need in this county is more gun owning citizens with concealed carry permits so criminals will think twice about the person they are getting ready to commit a crime against. Just think had their been one person at the school or theatre who had a firearm and knew how to use there would have most likely been a different out come to those horrible crimes. Stop trying to punish us law abiding citizens who own firearms and start punishing the criminals for a change and if you think banning assault weapons will stop some crazy person from mass killings then you need to take a basic chemistry class because if a person is intent on mass killings they could go into most hardware or farmers supply stores and purchase items that could be mixed into an explosive powerful enough to take our an entire shopping mall.

I guarantee Biden's "plan" will be the usual congressional package that will tie "mental health access" & other "warm & fuzzy" items in with the reinstatement of the "assault weapons ban"/limits to magazine capacity/elimination of the so-called "gun show loophole" {Which does NOT actually exist!!!}/ratification of the UN "Small Arms Treaty"/et al as he sees fit. That way he can claim that if it's not passed as written whoever votes against it is blocking needed access to mental health resources! Of course this totally ignores the fact that we have way too few legitimate facilities to handle what is desperately needed TODAY. So in essence a "law" of this type really has only one practical result - the "banning" part without the "solution" part.

Give me a break! We (citizens, taxpayers) moan and groan about paying our officers a decent wage as it is. And then we scream even louder when they discuss pensions! This most certainly is not an answer to this issue!

Even if all guns are outlawed, do you really think that gun killings would stop? Wayne P. hit the nail on the head....an armed officer in every school. If we were to stop sending billions and billions of dollars to all these countries that hate us, it would pay for these officers, with no tax increase. Robert W.
