JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- One person rescued from a duplex fire Thursday night is dead.
Investigators with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the victim is a woman who was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Crews with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department pulled five people from the burning duplex on West 10th Street just north of Kings Road.
Two were taken to UF Health in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Another person was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The other two people refused transport. Pets were also saved from the fire.
Fire investigators say they were able to bring the flames under control within 10 minutes.
Sheriff's Deputies say the preliminary investigation shows an accident with a candle might be the cause of the fire.
Homicide detectives and the State Fire Marshal's Office are both conducting investigations into the cause of the fire.
