JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Three school districts in SE Georgia and one in NE Florida will be closed on Tuesday due to the arctic weather in the forecast.

Schools in PierceCharlton and Ware counties in Georgia will be closed along with Columbia County in Florida. Faculty and staff in Charlton County must report to their schools.

Columbia County schools issued this statement:

"Due to the recommendation of the Columbia County Emergency Management Director and the expected wind chill factor of zero degrees, morning temperatures of 15 degrees and a very strong potential for 'Black Ice' on the roadways, the Columbia County School District will be closed for all students and employees on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. School will resume normal operation on Wednesday, January 8, 2014."

Action News is checking frequently with area districts for their cold weather plans.

Right now, classes will resume in Nassau County schools on Tuesday, according to the school district.

Tuesday is the first day back to school for Nassau County schools since the winter break.

The district brought in extra mechanics to work in the bus shops.  There will be more drivers on standby in case other drivers are not able to make it to work, said Sharyl Wood with the Nassau County School District.

Wood says maintenance people are checking schools to make sure the heating systems will work properly on Tuesday.

In St. Johns County, classes are expected to resume for students on Tuesday as well.

The St. Johns County School District is advising all students to dress warm for the weather. Heaters are expected to be turned on in the school buses.

In Duval County, classes will be held as normal, according to the school district.
