Action News spoke with the Florida Highway Patrol over the phone. A spokesperson for FHP says a 75-year-old driver may have had a medical issue while driving down State Road 19 in a white Toyota Tacoma pickup.
Investigators say the truck hit a mailbox and continued on through a school bus stop. A trooper says 9-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, were both hit by the truck. A 19-year-old babysitter was also hit during the crash.
FHP says the 9-year-old boy and 19-year-old babysitter were airlifted to UF Health Gainesville, but they do not have life-threatening injuries. The 9-year-old girl and 75-year-old driver were taken to Putnam Community medical center, a spokesperson for FHP says their injuries are not life-threatening either.
The students were waiting at a bus stop for K. Smith Elementary school according to troopers, but their names have not yet been released.
