SANFORD, Fla. (WFTV) -- Shellie Zimmerman, the wife of George Zimmerman, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor perjury Wednesday morning as part of a plea deal, WFTV found out.

She was sentenced to 100 hours of community service and one year of probation, as well as writing a letter of apology to Judge Kenneth Lester Jr.

Shellie Zimmerman faced perjury charges for failing to tell the court how much money she and her husband had in their Paypal account during one of his bond hearings last year.

Attorneys said she accepted the lesser charge to avoid a felony charge that would have meant a possible five-year jail sentence.

Shellie Zimmerman spoke only with WFTV reporter Steve Barrett as she left the courthouse.

Barrett asked, "Are you relieved? And, Are you happy that you can pursue your nursing carrier?"

Shellie Zimmerman replied, "Yes."

A felony conviction would have prevented Shellie from being a nurse.

The case had been continued several times.

Here are the jail house calls between George and Shellie Zimmerman.

Her Attorney will probably file to have the State of Florida re-reimburse her legal fees:

They went easy on her in some ways. This will put his life in danger though as her community service means people can follow her to him. Far as perjury goes I remember some of Bush aides destroying documents and lying get nothing but 50k fine. While on subject of hiding money how come nothing ever came of all those tax free hidden accounts in the Bahamas'?
