CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- A Clay County Deputy made history Friday by becoming the county’s first recipient of the National Sheriff's Association Deputy of the Year award.
CCSO Detective Matt Hanlin will be presented the award in June at the NSA's national conference in Charlotte.
Sheriff Beseler made the announcement, during a training exercise in Baker County.
Hanlin suffered a gunshot wound to his arm during a meth lab raid in Middleburg, in February 2012. Detective David White was killed in the raid.
Sheriff Beseler stated that Hanlin is honored and stated his deputy will accept the award in memory of Det. David White.
