JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- Caged and confined, the dogs and cats inside Animal Care and Protective Services are in desperate need of a home before it's too late. Shelter officials tell Action News they are severely overcrowded and may have to start euthanizing the animals as early as Thursday.
466 little lives, constrained to cages. And time is ticking away.
"We've been tremendously full the last two or three weeks where when animals are coming in from the field or people bringing them in we've got to tie them up in the hallways because we don't have cages," said Division Chief Scott Trebatoski.
Right now, Animal Care and Protective Services is so overcrowded drastic measures may be necessary. It is a kill shelter, so if the cats and dogs aren't adopted, they may not be around for long.
"What we don't want to do is get to the point where we have to put an animal down simply for space," he said.
But that's the reality. So people here at the shelter are pleading. They even set up a new professional photography studio to help better showcase the animals personalities. All in hope more than a few Jacksonville families will open their hearts and their homes for a life on the line.
