Bank teller arrested
FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. -- Police say they arrested a local bank teller for ripping off several customers.
Investigators say 37-year-old Carmelo Ortega of Palm Coast took about $6,000 from the accounts of three people at a Wells Fargo branch in St. Johns County.
All of the victims were over the age of 60.
Ortega was arrested on three counts of exploitation of the elderly and one count of organized scheming to defraud
Friday. He bonded out of jail.
The investigation began when three customers discovered missing funds from their accounts after meeting with a bank
employee. Ortega is charged with fraudulently withdrawing cash from the accounts of three victims on three occasions while
he was serving as their personal banker.
The investigation is continuing.
