Boat accident leaves local man hurt

FRUIT COVE, Fla. – A local man was hurt after falling out of his boat on the St. Johns River.

The accident happened off Friendship Road Friday evening.

According to St. Johns Fire Rescue, the man fell off the boat and tried to swim back to it but the engine got stuck in the on position.

Firefighters say the boat struck the man as it drove around in circles.

The impact apparently caused the boat to stop.

Firefighters pulled the man from the water and airlifted him to a local hospital.

Florida Fish and Wildlife is investigating.
