JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Bradford County man has been sentenced to more than 17 years in federal prison for using his tanning bed business to produce child porn.
Doyce Griffis, 48, pleaded guilty in federal court in February. Judge Marcia Howard sentenced him to 210 months in prison and a 10 year term of supervised release.
Investigators say he set up a hidden camera inside his tanning bed business at his home in Starke.
Griffis set the business up as a "pay-to-lay" operation, according to authorities. Customers would slide money through a slot in the wall of the room and Griffis would give them a code to unlock the door.
Court documents show Griffis made video recordings of many of his female customers, including over twenty minor female children, in various forms of undress or engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
Authorities say Griffis produced, collected and maintained the secret video recordings for his own sexual gratification, and kept detailed notes on the types of physical and sexual characteristics of his customers.
Griffis was also ordered to register as a sex offender and forfeit a computer, two video cameras, and numerous other forms of computer media.
