Sorry icarus but you are wrong. The Greg and Duane Allman were from Daytona. The Allman Brothers Band was formed in 1969 by musicians who were all living and playing in Jacksonville. with the exception of Greg Allman who was in Los Angeles finishing out a recording contract left over from a previous band that Duane and him were in. Greg was called back to Jacksonville to join the band . They all then relocated to Macon where their record company, Capricorn Records, was located.

Ok, I'm one of the biggest Lynyrd Skynyrd fans on the planet. I named my son Leonard to honor them. But you did make one pretty big mistake with the story. All the bands featured in the story did indeed originate in the Jacksonville area...except one. The Allman Brothers are from Macon, GA. Great story otherwise...just please get your facts straight. Oh, I'm from Waycross, GA. and my son Leonard was Valedictorian 2 years ago here in Ware County. Also, Ronnie Van Zant's wife was from Waycross.

i think it may be a great idea for a southern rock museum be built it would be great to see some of the memories of these great groups and it may help the community in other ways as well

What a nice heritage story... as a Jacksonville native growing up in the '70's, WAPE was an AM station featuring the infamous DJ "The Greaseman" who kept these bands on the air. I never knew "The Bold New City of the South" was the epicenter for Southern Rock; when you grow up with it in your backyard it is taken for granted.
