CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- Two suspected car thieves from Jacksonville are now in the hospital and in police custody after allegedly hitting a man.

According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, Adrian Johns said he parked his Ford Explorer near McDonald's and Cedar River Seafood in Middleburg while he went to eat this afternoon.

Johns saw a man trying to get in his car and ran outside to stop him. A black Toyota  hit him. Johns had minor injuries and was treated at Orange Park Medical Center.

The two suspects were injured after crashing the victim's stolen car as they fled down County Road 220.
Aaron Beckworth, who police believe is the suspect driving the stolen vehicle that hit Johns is at UF Health in serious but stable condition.

Another suspect, who detectives think stole Johns' Explorer, is in critical condition at UF Health.

A deputy found the man's Ford Explorer at the BP gas station on Henley Road. At the scene, the deputy also found the stolen black Toyota.

FHP is investigating the crash.
