ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The Coast Guard Achievement Medal was awarded to Cmdr. David Hensel Friday for his life-saving actions during St. Augustine's St. Patrick's Day Parade.

Hensel was a participant in the parade March 9 when a spectator went into cardiac arrest.

The flotilla commander went into immediate action, performing life-saving CPR.

The spectator was eventually transported to a nearby hospital and recovered from the incident.

Hensel is currently a commander for Coast Guard Flotilla 14-05, based in Green Cove Springs.
