JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Military teams will conduct an emergency disaster drill Tuesday at NAS Jacksonville.

The Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron Seventy (HSM-70) will simulate a helo crash with smoke and fire. The drill also has emergency crews responding in real time.

Don’t be alarmed if you see a lot of activity around NAS Jacksonville.

In a media release, HSM-70 Commanding Officer Amy Bauernschmidt says, "We are conducting the drill in order to ensure the squadron's processes and procedures are in place and operating soundly in the event of an aircraft mishap."

HSM-70 is the first East Coast helicopter maritime strike squadron to fly the new MH-60R Seahawk.
The squadron currently has 11 aircraft and 268 personnel.
