PALM COAST, Fla. -- The Flagler County Sheriff's Office has a fruad alert.

In the last two weeks, more than 30 people have had their credit card information stolen.

The method is called "skimming."

Thieves steal your information with the use of a device that's hidden inside credit card slots.

Many of the victims in Flagler County believe their credit card numbers were skimmed when they used a Palm Coast gas station.

"They told me they had a $409.90 charged at a Winn Dixie in Lutz, Florida," said Bruce McDonald.

To avoid being ripped off, Authorities say you should go inside the gas station to pay instead of at the pump.

The skimming devices maybe an attachment to the card slot that you are using at a gas pump or ATM.

Police say if the card slot you are using looks different from the others at that gas station, you probably shouldn't use it.
