JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--  Calling all innovators! Mayor Alvin Brown wants to help you.

"We tend to focus on medium sized companies and large companies, but it's really those small businesses, 10 employees or less, who really make it happen," he said.

This afternoon, the inaugural Brown Business Builder kicked off at the Convention Center. People had a chance to network with banks, learn the ins and outs of loans, and hear from national SBA Administrator...Karen Mills.

"Small businesses create 2 out of every 3 jobs. So, when we get a city like Jacksonville, we need to make sure they have access to capital," she said.

Melinda Henry owns a fitness and wellness company on the Northwest side. She says she couldn't be happier about the Mayor's vision.

"It's vitally important that we hear and get all that's being offered to us," she said.

Herrald Jonkers agrees. He says small business is the backbone of America and that today's event is the start of re-growth in Jacksonviile.

"If the economy needs to improve, then we need to grow and prosper and bring jobs back to society," he said.

Today's seminar is just the first of many workshops to come. The next Brown Business Builder will be in May.
