COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. -- A man who ran off from a prison work detail didn't get far.

John Keene was working near S.W. Pinemouth Avenue and S.W. Birley Road around 10 a.m. when he bolted.

K-9 units, FWC officers and sheriff deputies swarmed the area and tracked Keene to Magical Terrace. A witness told authorities that someone in a car picked up Keene. Authorities later learned Keene was dropped off at the Challenge Learning Center near his home.

A short time later, authorities found Keene hiding in a bedroom closet of a friend's home. He had been on the run for about two hours.

Deputies arrested Felipe Ortega for aiding and abetting a felon.

Keene, of Lake City, is in jail awaiting trial for narcotics charges.
