LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A local woman armed herself when she heard an intruder breaking into her home.

The home invasion happened in Lake City on October 21, 2012.  Police say the man who broke into the home cut himself on some glass from the window.  He started to chase the homeowner.  She ran screaming for help, but when he continued to chase her out of the house, she fired one shot and hit him in the chest.

The suspect, Milton Barber, jumped over a fence and ran down the sidewalk leaving a trail of blood.  He collapsed at the front door of a neighbor.  That neighbor applied pressure to the gun shot wound until police arrived.

Barber is in critical condition at Shands Gainesville.  Police believe he is also a suspect in another burglary earlier in the evening.  Barber is a convicted felon and a registered sex offender.
