JACKSONVILLE Fla.-- Flu season is upon us. Action News has learned that doctors are already documenting positive flu cases right here in Jacksonville.

"Yesterday we had three positives," said Dr. Marc Thorpe with CareSpot in Jacksonville. "Flu season pretty much starts right now."

That's why prevention also starts now with the flu vaccination.

"The CDC does actually recommend that anybody over the age of 6 months should get the flu shot. That is the best way of preventing the flu," said Thorpe.

But some worry, could you get sick from the shot?

"No, you cannot get the flu from the flu shot," insisted Thorpe. In fact, it is an inactivated vaccine so it's a dead virus so if you get the shot that virus doesn't have any potential of making you sick."

Thorpe says if you got sick after a vaccine, it's probably a coincidence.

CareSpot just got their first batch of vaccines this week, and doctors recommend you get them now while they're still readily available.
