JSO searching for killer after Eastside shooting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office homicide unit reports one man is dead after being shot in a car on the Eastside.

Sgt. Jay Farhat with the JSO homicide unit said a man in his mid 20's died at UF Health in Jacksonville.

JSO identified the victim as Kevin C. Jones.

Police said Jones was found with a gunshot wound in a vehicle at the intersection of Ionia and Odessa Streets.

Officers tell Action News they are not releasing what part of the body he was shot in. Officers said this originally could have been an attempted robbery.

They are questioning a witness to try to gather more information.

According to JSO, the motive is unknown.

JSO officers are also trying to gather surveillance video from nearby homes and businesses. This homicide is an ongoing investigation.
