CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- The Clay County Sheriff's Office arrested a man Wednesday accused of impersonating a police officer.

Investigators said Paul Edward Burkhead pretended to be an undercover police officer from Virginia. Witnesses said he wore a Richmond Police Department badge around his neck and he claimed to be here on special assignment.

He reportedly told one witness that he gets free cups of coffee because he is in law enforcement.

Richmond police said Burkhead does not work for them. The Clay County Sheriff's Office tells Action News he may have obtained the badge from an acquaintance who worked as a police officer in Virginia years ago.

Burkhead also has seven outstanding warrants out of Virginia.
