JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man was sentenced today to 40 years for trying to shoot his girlfriend's father.

William R. Copeland was sentenced to 40 years in prison, with a twenty-five-year minimum mandatory sentence.

Copeland was convicted last month of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm, aggravated battery with a firearm and causing great bodily harm, and shooting into a building.

Copeland tried to kill his girlfriend's father. He came to her home, rang the doorbell and when she answered, he went to the back of the house and shot her father.
