JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A new case of West Nile Virus has been confirmed in Duval County.
The Duval County Health Department confirmed the new case on Monday. It involves a 39-year-old woman from Jacksonville.
The mosquito-borne illness alert is still in effect for all of Duval County. So far this year, there have been 26 confirmed cases of West Nile in Jacksonville.
One in 150 people infected with West Nile will develop severe illness. Symptoms can include high fever, headache, neck stiffness, stupor, disorientation, coma, tremors, convulsions, muscle weakness, vision loss, numbness and paralysis.
The Health Department wants to remind everyone to "Drain and Cover." Drain water from garbage cans, house gutters, buckets and pool covers. Cover your skin with clothing or repellent.
