New hope for recovering war veterans
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- There's new hope this week for veterans recovering from war. New numbers show more than 50-thousand veterans in Florida are waiting an average 232 days for money to pay for the health care they need.
Instead of waiting months or even years to get answers, money and care, a new offer could clear claims in as little as 30 days.
"It's as simple as our clients having all the evidence right there ready to submit at the time of their claims being submitted," veteran Justin Hart said.
A veteran along with a service organization such as the vfw or dav, files what's called a "fully developed claim", meaning all the paperwork, medical records and supporting documents that often slow down the process, are already collected before anything is filed with the veterans administration.
This new offer was mandated by Congress, which added an incentive. If a veteran has all the paperwork ahead of time, he or she could receive an extra year's worth of disability benefits. The incentive will be available beginning Tuesday and running through 2015.
