JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A local man celebrated a big victory in overcoming a serious injury.  Tim Callahan became paralyzed while playing flag football in July of 2010.

He tells Action News, a freak play led to his injury, “We both jumped up, I tangled with him and the ball. He landed on top of me the right way. It was instantaneous, he broke my neck and was paralyzed right away.”

He says he could not feel his arms or legs. Doctors gave him little chance of ever walking again.

Tim says, “My surgeon was telling me he was telling his interns, ‘when you refer to people breaking neck and being paralyzed, we give them .01 percent chance, this kids is that .01 percent,’ gives you goosebumps for sure.”.

Not only did Tim regain feeling in his arms and legs enough to walk, he also gained enough feeling and motion to return to the football field.

In January, his team played for, and won the national championship 27-25, with Tim starring as the quarterback.
Tim Callahan walked again, off the football field as a champion.
