Police identify girl found dead at home on Northside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 10-year-old girl died Saturday evening after she was found not breathing at a home off Devan Lee Dr. East.

JSO was called to the home after Kayla Thomas was found unresponsive. Her father says when he got home from work, he found his daughter wrapped up in a blanket on his bed, stuck between the mattress and the bed frame. She was being watched by another relative. The relative performed CPR on Kayla until help arrived. Rescue crews rushed her to UF & Shands Jacksonville where she died.

Police have not released any information on the cause of death and the investigation is still ongoing.  Kayla attended New Berlin Elementary school.
