GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gainesville Police Department is investigating an apparent homicide that happened on Friday morning near the University of Florida.
A 911 caller reported seeing a man laying face-down on the ground with a white male suspect rummaging through the victim's pockets.
When police responded they found the victim but the "person with knowledge" had already fled the scene.
The victim was transported to Shands at UF where he died. His identity has not been released.
GPD is searching for a white male with a bald head, who stands around 5-foot-11, with a large build. He was last seen wearing khaki pants and a flowered shirt.
The "person with knowledge" could be driving a white "box-style" van.
