Poll: Majority of Florida voters support purge

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A new poll of Florida voters shows 60 percent in favor of Gov. Rick Scott's effort to purge potential non-citizens from the state's voter rolls.

The Quinnipiac University survey released Wednesday showed 35 percent opposed to the governor's effort and 5 percent didn't have an opinion. Some see it as a way to suppress turnout.

A similar majority, 56 percent, also supported the state's "stand your ground" law that allows a citizen to defend themselves with deadly force if they feel threatened. Thirty-seven percent said they oppose the law.

Scott's popularity among voters still lags with 39 percent who approve of his job performance compared to 49 percent who disapprove.

The margin of error in the survey of 1,697 voters taken June 12-18 was plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.
