PALATKA, Fla. -- An employee in the Finance Department of the Putnam County Clerk of the Court has been arrested for official misconduct, organized scheme to defraud, grand theft, and nineteen counts of uttering forged bank notes.
Sharon Blount, a 15-year employee with the Putnam County Clerk of Courts Office, had allegedly fraudulently obtained and cashed 18 checks totaling $84,851. It was verified that the thefts had been taking place since June of this year. Blount was taken into custody today after detectives intercepted an $8,000 check that she delivered to an individual in the parking lot of the Putnam County Courthouse.
Putnam County's Clerk of the Court Tim Smith discovered a large amount of money missing from an operating account.
After being interviewed by detectives, Blount, 42, was arrested and booked into the Putnam County jail on the following charges:
1 Count of Official Misconduct
1 Count of Organized Scheme to Defraud
1 Count of Grand Theft over $20,000 but less than $100,000
19 Counts of Uttering a false Bank Note
Blount is being held with a $27,588.00 bond.
