Jacksonville, Fla - At the Third Street Diner in Jacksonville Beach the inspector found 29 violations. 21 of them were critical including:

Food kept at unsafe temperatures
Slime on the soda fountain dispenser nozzle
Slime in the ice machine
A cook handling raw eggs then making a sandwich without washing his hands
Dead roaches on sticky traps in several areas of the kitchen

Third Street Diner owner George Koutroumanos was angry about the inspection. He says his kitchen is clean and to prove it  he invited us inside. He told us, "Check! Check to see if you see anything!" He challenged us to find anything dirty, including roaches. When we asked to see the sticky traps, Koutroumanos first claimed to not know where they were. After crawling on the floor and looking under his kitchen equipment he found one for us. The trap had some broken egg shells and dirt on it but no roaches. Koutroumanos yelled, "You see any roaches here? It's a clean restaurant ma'am!" Some regular patrons at the popular New York Deli style restaurant tell us they have never seen any signs of roaches. We didn't see any either. We did however find one problem listed on the inspectors report that still wasn't fixed. The employee hand washing sink in the kitchen is broken. Koutroumanos says he has called the plumber to fix it immediately and he wants his customers to know this, "If I see that my restaurant is dirty, I will close it right now!"

China One in Lake City tied Third Street Diner for the most number of violations. 21 of them were critical including getting food from an unapproved source: Jellyfish from Jacksonville Beach.

El Potro Mexican restaurant on University Boulevard had twenty critical write-ups ranging from raw food not being properly stored to a wall soiled with food.

Congratulations to our clean plate award winners of the week! The following restaurants got perfect inspections.

On The Fly Sandwiches & Stuff on Atlantic
Kight's Concessions in Dixie County
The Soup Kettle in Clay County

I have eaten at the 3rd Street Diner's new location in Saint Augustine. We found mold in our food. We asked the waiter about it and we were told it was "oregano”. When we asked to speak to a manager, it was then admitted that there was in fact mold in our food. He told us the food was all made at the beaches location, froze, and then brought to Saint Augustine. I found this interesting considering the menu claimed “food made fresh daily”. This is the diner’s way of saving money by unsafely serving obviously expired food. Once enough patrons catch on to the cheap trickery of the owner, this place is sure to go out of business. I refuse to eat anywhere that has an owner whose primary concern is making money at the expense of public safety and his own standards of food. Clearly the passion to serve his customers with outstanding food has been lost. To put it simply…. This is just disgusting.

I don't know what George is telling, but I have worked for him and have known him for years. While I do stop in to have a friendly chat and talk, I will NOT eat there. George does not keep up on things, his food will get moldy and instead of throwing it out, he mixes it up so you can't see it and then serves it. He keeps too much food for what he sells and the only way he can keep his head above water is foolish investors who are usually women in desperate need of a males attention which he uses until they either run out of money or get smart about the truth AND by continuing to use food that has gone bad by mixing it in and up into stuff. George is alright to BS around with if you have nothing going on, but what he really does isn't right. I am truly surprised he hasn't been shut down yet, but he has successfully bribed at least one inspector that we know of. Truly shameful. I don't intend him any harm, but he is going to seriously hurt someone at some point if he doesn't actually fix his behavior.

This News team has a report about the diners needing cleaned up. After the email I received from an employee of this station, the language they used made these restaurants squeaky clean. Let's get your house clean before you report on someone else house.
