Sandalwood teacher killed in scooter crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The man who was killed when he crashed his scooter on Huffman Boulevard has been identified as 28-year-old James Belyea.

The crash happened on Thursday, August 23rd.  According to the report, Belyea was traveling south on Huffman Boulevard when he apparently lost control of the scooter.  He slid approximately 125 feet and struck his head on the pavement.

The victim was not wearing a helmet.  Belyea died at the hospital on Tuesday, September 5th.

According to the Duval County School District, Belyea was a teacher at Sandalwood High School.

Had he been wearing his helmet he may still be with us....I don't leave my driveway without it. Life if precious, my prayers to his family and friends.
