Sanford police chief fired
SANFORD, Fla. -- The police chief for the city of Sanford, Florida has been fired.
Bill Lee has been let go in the wake of the killing of Trayvon Martin.
Lee had submitted a resignation letter in April that said he was stepping down, but city commissioners chose not to accept it at that time. At that point they were still waiting for more facts.
The Sanford city manager made the decision Wednesday evening.
Lee had been under fire after many say the investigation of George Zimmerman was mishandled. Zimmerman has since been charged for the murder of Trayvon Martin.
Interim chief Richard Myers is handling police chief duties for now.
