Jacksonville Fire and Rescue joined JSO narcotics investigators and bomb squad on the Southside Wednesday night at the Port Side mobile home community along Beach Boulevard.
Inside a trailer home there, police found a meth lab among a family living in squalor.

The family living next door tells Action News that the couple who lived in the trailer moved to the home on Wheeling Lane with their two young children about six months ago.

"The lab appeared to be fully assembled, but was inactive at the time," said JSO Sgt. Daniel Kenney.  "The hazardous materials and equipment of the meth lab was easily accessible to the children."

Neighbors are as disturbed by police reports about the family's living conditions.

Sgt. Kenney said, "There was no power to the house. There was spoiled food, garbage and flies everywhere. There was also animal feces all over the floor."

Police arrested both parents along with two other men who were inside the home.  The two young children were placed with extended family.
