JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- It's no secret gas prices are through the roof - the average price in florida stands at $3.68.
"It just keeps getting higher it seems that way," Krystal Britchatt said.
Britchatt is a college student with a limited income. We wanted to know how she could get the bang for her buck-- so we took our questions to Auto One Repair.
Don Smith says it's all about maintenance.
"Basically, plugs, fuel, air filters, fuel filters, tire pressure," he said.
Smith also suggests getting routine tune ups and oil changes-- and taking excess junk out of your car. Consumer reports also found that slowing from 75 miles per hour to 55 miles per hour boosted gas mileage by 33 percent. Using cruise control will also help you stretch your dollar.
"It's tight right now, so people are putting things on the back burner, so to speak. That can cause a problem with the fuel mileage," he continued.
Since mid-December, gas has risen more than 3 cents a week. Analysts anticipate it being up to $5 a gallon by Memorial Day. Britchatt says she's going to start limiting her trips, maintaining her car and hoping for the best.
"Are you going to have to cut back?" we asked.
"Yeah, on a lot of driving if it goes up that high. It's ridiculous," she said.
