JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Florida woman is traveling through several local counties as part of her annual 1,500-mile walk across the state to raise awareness about child sexual abuse.
Lauren Book launched the Walk in My Shoes
campaign in 2010. In addition to raising awareness, the goals of the organization also include advocating for change in Florida law to extend "victimless" prosecution to older children.
Book said she was abused by her nanny for six years as a child.
This year's walk began March 19 in Key West and will end April 23 with a rally at the state Capitol in Tallahassee.
Book walked through Clay County and St. Johns County today, leading a rally at the Clay County Court House and a campus-wide walk at Flagler College.
