Black History Profile: Bill Pickett
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Today's Black History moment is about a movie poster from 1923.
It shows Bill Pickett as the big star in a movie called "The Bull-Dogger."
The movie was shot in Jacksonville by Norman Studios.
Pickett, according to Florida Memory, was discovered by studio head Richard Norman in the all-black Oklahoma town of Boley while working as a rancher. He later performed in other Norman productions. In this movie, Pickett was billed as the Colored Hero of the Mexican Bull Ring in death-defying feats of courage and skill.
