JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Today's Black History moment focuses on Brewster Hospital, the first training school for African American nurses in Jacksonville.

It opened in 1901 and closed in 1966.  Florida Memory says Brewster was unable to compete with other hospitals after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed.
