JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Rosa Parks will be honored with a statue in Washington D.C. later this month and a local man will be there to celebrate.

Jacksonville's Mark Kerrin was a bodyguard for Rosa Parks from 1994 until her death in 2005. He is most known for his photo journal, Rosa Parks: My Lady of Peace." The book chronicled days leading up to the civil rights pioneer's funeral.

Kerrin is currently an adjunct professor. He received a commendation from the director of the FBI for a case involving the Duval County School Board camera systems as an enhanced means of surveillance in schools, is a Florida State Certified Firearms Instructor, and in 2007 had to protect his family using the Stand Your Ground Law.

President Barack Obama is set to unveil the Rosa Parks statue Feb. 27.
