2013 Weather Highlights:

JANUARY

Avg. temp.: 60.2/+7.1 degrees -- warmest Jan. since 1989…top 5 warmest Jan @ JIA since the thermometer was moved to its current location in 1956….. rain: 1.02"/-2.28"

* 14th: 81 tied daily record high, 1888

* 30th: 85 -- daily (83/1991) record high…. all-time Jan. record (84, last in 1982)

FEBRUARY:

Avg. temp: 57.6/+1.2…. rain: 4.71"/+1.52"

10th: EF-4 tornado - Hattiesburg, MS

15th: Russian meteorite

18th: 24 degrees - first freeze of the season on the Southside

25th: 3.20" - daily record (1.77"/1960) -- 4th highest Feb. total with numerous hail reports of nickel to quarter size.

MARCH

Avg. temp: 55.5/-6.2 - 2nd coldest March on record (1960 - coldest)…. rain: 3.07"/-0.88"

3rd: High: 47 - record low max (48/1962) - flurries in SE Ga.

23rd: Hail, wind damage from thunderstorms including N. Central Fl. supercell. Photo below is a hail-damaged home near Starke.

28th: 35 at JIA - daily record low (36/1999)

APRIL

Avg. temp: 67.7/+0.7…. rain: 3.06"/+0.42"

12th: Low: 70 - tie record high low (1883)

20th - High: 62 - tie record low max (1926)

22nd - High: 67 - tie record low max (1901)

MAY

Avg. temp: 71.5/-2.6 - 2nd coolest spring on record - 64.8 degrees (64.3/1983)…. 3rd coolest May for JIA…. rain: 5.39"/+2.91"

3rd: Heavy flooding I-95/Highway 301 to the coast (photo below along Black Creek in Clay Co.)

4th: EF-0 tornado - Elkton, Fl., St. Johns Co… flooding S & W side of Jax -- all from southeast moving supercell storm.

14th: 47 @ JIA - record low (51/1982)

15th: 52 @ JIA - tie record low (2002)…. Dallas, Tx hit by tornadoes -- EF-3 & EF-4 - 6 dead.

20th: Moore, Ok.: EF-5 tornado - 24 died.

31st: Oklahoma tornado swarm includes EF-5 in Reno; EF-3 tornado in St. Louis

JUNE

Avg. temp: 80.4/+0.5…. rain: 4.52"/-1.93"

5th: Tropical storm "Andrea" forms in Gulf

6th: Tropical storm "Andrea" makes landfall on the Fl. Big Bend @ 5:40pm; EF-1 tornadoes occur in Mayport & Fernandina Beach. Local photos ** here **.

JULY

Avg. temp: 80.6/-1.7 - only 12 90-degree days - lowest since 1975…. rain: 8.65"/+2.10"

11th: Thunderstorm microburst - Orange Park & Ortega - trees down.

27th: heavy flooding downtown Jax

AUGUST

Avg. temp: 81.8/0.0… rain: 5.95"/-0.85"

1st: EF-2 tornado hits Arlington

22nd: Green Cove Springs waterspout

SEPTEMBER

Avg. temp: 78.4/+0.2…. rain: 3.58"/-4.61"

2nd: 2-3" of rain S'side, Jax

12th: Jacksonville Beach waterspout offshore

15th: Massive Colorado flooding

18th: Southside flooding -- avg. 2-5" but up to 7" Gate Pkway/I-295

OCTOBER

Avg. temp: 70.5/+0.1…. rain: 1.58"/-2.35"

7th: Jacksonville Beach street flooding

NOVEMBER

Avg. temp: 62.3/+0.1…. rain: 2.84"/+0.73"

2nd: 1-3" of rain

8th: Super typhoon "Haiyan" slams Philippines

14th: 39 @ JIA - 1st freeze of season N & NW of Jax

17th: 8 dead from tornado "swarm" Missouri/Illinois to Ohio

28th: 30 @ JIA - first freeze but NOT for downtown, S'side, intracoastal & beaches

DECEMBER

Avg. temp: 59.9/+4.7 -- only the 25th warmest on record (much to my surprise!) -- no official freezes @ JIA…. rain: 0.86"/-1.94" 

5th: 83 - daily record high (82/1994)

6th: 83 - daily record high (82.1942)

7th: 83 - daily record high (82/1989)

9th: 84 - tie daily record high, 1994 & tie all time Dec. record high

14th: EF-1 tornado - Palm Coast - photos .... Jax N.W.S. survey.

21st: 83 - daily record high (81/1951)

22nd: 84 - daily record high (82/1967) - ties all-time Dec. record high - only 9th time to hit 84 degrees in Dec. since 1871.

22nd: Low: 68 degrees - record high min (66/2006)

2013: Avg. temp: 68.9 degrees/+4.1 degrees... rain: 45.23"/-6.56"
