Another Dec. "Heat Wave"... Weekend/Early Week Storm... Salvation Army: Red Kettle & Angel Tree
The big First Alert weather story through the weekend will be another round of unseasonably warm temps. As a storm system develops over the Central U.S., winds will become (from) the southeast Fri. then more southerly Sat.-Sun. & finally from the southwest Mon. This wind flow will help push temps. way -- some 10-15+ degrees -- above avg. Jax will be very close to record highs, especially Sat.-Sun. & could flirt with the Dec. all-time record high of 84 degrees(!).
The storm system over the Central U.S. will drop heavy rain & trigger severe storms from Texas to the Ohio Valley with ice & snow on the storm's backside that include Chicago. If traveling north & west, be prepared for adverse weather conditions.
The cold front attached to the strong storm system to the northwest of Jax will move across the First Coast early next week bringing showers -- & possibly a few t'storms -- later Mon.-Mon. night. Much cooler air -- but not much worse than avg. (60s) -- will follow the front for Christmas Eve & Day.
Our Jacksonville Salvation Army is in the stretch run of their annual Red Kettle campaign (through Tue.). If you hear the bells ringing, please consider a donation. The photo below is a part of the Fletcher H.S. band playing instrumental music around the red kettle at the Neptune Beach Publix. The band will play again Fri. & Sat. from 6-8pm.
Speaking of the Salvation Army, the Fl. Tims-Union printed an article on the Angel Tree distribution -- click ** here **. CBS 47/ Fox 30 Action News was again the proud media sponsor -- along with the Salvation Army & Ashley Furniture HomeStore -- of this year's Angel Tree program. More than 3,000 kids will get to have a Christmas that they only otherwise would have been able to dream about.
