While cooler, the cold air does not have much "staying power", so we're in for a nice weekend with cool but pleasant temps. Another cold front will roll through the area Mon. night, but the chill will again be short-lived. We could see an inland frost/freeze Wed. & Thu. morning. No significant rain anytime soon.

Climate Fact: Warm December Concludes Second Straight Exceptionally Warm Year in Southeast
December 2012 in the Southeast was dominated by above normal temperatures, with the greatest departures of five to seven degrees Fahrenheit above normal occurring in parts of Georgia and Alabama. The first week of the month saw the warmest conditions, with temperatures exceeding 70 degrees as far north as northern Virginia. Nighttime temperatures were particularly warm, with over 150 daily high minimum temperature records set during the month. December precipitation totals varied, with most of the region receiving above normal rainfall while parts of the Gulf Coast and South Florida were drier than normal. Despite the predominance of above normal rainfall, half of the Southeast region remains in at least moderate drought conditions or worse. December 2012 featured 118 reports of severe weather across the Southeast including 22 confirmed tornadoes. December concluded the second straight year of exceptionally warm temperatures across a large portion of the region.
